Leitrim PPN Member Spotlight
Family Resource Centre's
|
There are 109 communities supported through the Child and Family Agency's Family and Community Services Resource Centre Programme providing services and supports to local communities. Through its established network of 121 Centres nationwide, and two outreach Centres, the FRC programme is Ireland’s largest family support programme delivering universal services to families in disadvantaged areas across the country based on a life-cycle approach. In Leitrim Breffni Family Resource Centre in Carrick on Shannon and Mohill Family Support Centre.
The aim of the FRC programme is to combat disadvantage and improve the functioning of the family unit. Each FRC operates autonomously working inclusively with individuals, families, communities, and both statutory and non statutory agencies. A central feature of the FRC programme is the involvement of local people in identifying needs and developing needs-led responses. FRCs involve people from marginalised groups and areas of disadvantage on their voluntary management committees. This approach ensures that each FRC is rooted in the community and this, in turn, makes it a vehicle for delivering other programmes in the community. FRCs are participative and empowering organisations that support families while building the capacity and leadership of local communities.

Leitrim’s story is shaped by its people, past and present - wherever in the world they may be. If you have Leitrim heritage, we want to hear from you!
Throughout history, Leitrim has suffered a considerable population decline, from 160,000 in 1847 to approximately 35,000 today. Emigration during this period has led to people with Leitrim heritage being relocated worldwide.
Leitrim County Council is conducting a Diaspora Survey to discover where Leitrim’s global family now calls home. By taking part, you’ll help strengthen connections between Leitrim and its people worldwide.
If you have family or friends with Leitrim roots, please share and encourage them to complete the survey and be part of this important initiative!
